Saxophonist Ting-Hua (Arthur) Liang distinguished himself with his highly acclaimed solo debut recital at the esteemed National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, in January 2019. Demonstrating exceptional talent and artistry, Arthur emerged as the winner of the MTNA Young Artist Competition for the state round in 2017 and earned the honor of being invited as a semi-finalist to the inaugural Asian Saxophone Conference Competition in 2016. He also has participated in the live rounds of the Aeolus International Competition in Germany and the inaugural Naumburg International Saxophone Competition in New York in 2022. Notably, Arthur showcased his musical prowess as a member of the Eastman Saxophone Project, embarking on a successful tour across Beijing, Jinan, Ningbo, and Shanghai in 2016, culminating in a remarkable debut performance at the illustrious Kennedy Center in 2015.
Arthur is a founding member and baritone saxophonist of the Soma Quartet, an ensemble actively performing since 2016. The Soma Quartet received the Grand Prize at the 9th Plowman Chamber Music Competition in 2019, 2nd prize at MTNA Chamber Music Competition and bronze medalist at the 48th Fischoff Competition in 2021.
Driven by a passion for education and sharing his musical expertise, Arthur has imparted his knowledge and skills at the IU Saxophone Academy at Indiana University from 2017 to 2023. Presently, he holds the position of Associate Instructor at Indiana University, where he continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of saxophonists.
Arthur is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music in Saxophone Performance at the Jacobs School of Music in Indiana University, where he serves as an Associate Instructor of Saxophone. Arthur also earned a Masterโs Degree and Performer Diploma from the Jacobs School of Music under the guidance of Otis Murphy. He received his Bachelorโs Degree in Saxophone Performance from the Eastman School of Music studying with Chien-Kwan Lin.
